I Must Hold On

I Must Hold On
I must hold on to this year,
There were dreams to be met,
Promises to be kept,
But so little time to do the things I hold dear.

I must hold on to this year,
For I left so much undone,
Some things which have fallen into oblivion,
Hidden under questions, worries, and fear.

When will I have the time,
To correct all that went wrong,
To put me back where I belong,
To stop the slide and restart the climb.

I must, I must seize this year,
Hold on with all my might,
Not let it slip from my sight,
I am not ready to tackle a new frontier.

Yet time marches relentlessly on and on,
Bringing problems and challenges anew,
Throwing my life further askew,
Leaving more and more undone.

There must be a button I can push to reset,
So I can get off to a fresh new start,
So I can rest my tired, tired heart,
For there are promises to be kept and dreams to be met.

I must desperately hold on to this year,
And remember all the things I did well,
For I left no visible track or trail,
There was so little time to do the things I hold dear.
