They put away their summer chores,
And reached for needles and thread,
It was time to make quilts of colorful scraps,
That would fit a double bed.
They planned ahead and made their squares,
For a Double Wedding Ring,
They worked on it from time to time,
So they could finish it by spring.
They knew when it was time to work long and hard,
On Grandmother’s Flower Garden design,
They would stitch two rows around each scrap,
And tie it with cotton twine.
A frame would hold the quilt layer tight,
While they sewed the back with padding between,
They would talk until their hearts were content,
On those cold nights that were serene.
