GLITTER

It’s not the everyday object
That catches my eye.
It’s the unusual or colorful
Spectacular or different
That makes me stop
Without a reason as to why.
It’s fool’s gold that sparkles,
The flash of glitter
That surprises and teases
Opens the gates and pleases,
The moments that I catch my breath
And sigh.
Sometimes the glitter
Is honey from a stranger’s lips,
Pleasing and soothing,
And it covers the truth
Hidden deep in everyday words.
Glitter takes me by surprise,
Enticing and mesmerizing
And makes me stop
Without listening as words fly by.
All that glitters I’m often told,
Is very pretty but it’s not gold.
